The Purnagiri Temple is situated at an elevation of 5500 feet on Annapurna Peak in Tanakpur, Uttarakhand state in India. It is one of the 108 Siddha Peeths. This place is believed to be the rear of Mahakali. It is said that the navel part of Sati, the daughter of Daksha Prajapati and the consort of Shiva, fell from the Vishnu Chakra here. Faithful devotees come here every year to visit this Shakti Peeth.
History
Legend has it that Prajapati’s daughter Parvati (Sati) gave her husband the life that leaped into the sacrificial pit that Prajapati had against the humiliation of Mahadev. Lord Vishnu cut Sati Parvati’s body into 64 pieces to pacify Mahadev’s anger with her chakra. There a Shakti Peeth was established. In this sequence, Sati Parvati’s navel had fallen in the place of Poornagiri Shakti Peeth.
This place is located at a distance of 95 km from Champawat and only 25 km from Tanakpur. The court of this goddess is counted among the 51 Shaktipeeths of India. It’s done. This place is only 17 km from Tanakpur. The devotees travel the last 17 km with unmatched faith. Nepal is by your side. It is located at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level. Poornagiri Temple 20 KM from Tanakpur, It is located at a distance of 171 km from Pithoragarh and 92 km from Champawat. Pilgrims from all the provinces of India continue to arrive throughout the year in Purnagiri. Devotees come in large numbers, especially in the month of Navratri (March-April). Devotees go up the mountain with devotion for darshan here. Poornagiri is also known as Punyagiri. From here the river Kali comes out and goes towards the plain, there this river is known as Sharda. To get to this pilgrimage place, you can go from Tanakpur to Thuligad by vehicle. Since construction works on the road from Thuligad to Tunyas are ongoing, the rest of the way must be covered on foot. Hanuman Chatti arrives after crossing the bamboo ridge of Thuligad. From here you can see the southwestern part of Punya Parvat. From here the shops and temporary houses that are up to Tunyas depart. From the highest part (Purnagiri) you can see the expanse of the Kali river, the city of Tanakpur and some Nepalese villages. The view here is very beautiful. Old Brahmadev Mandi is very close to Tanakpur.
